Google Chrome Beta for Windows is available for download from today onwards. While the entire Internet World is excited about it and trying to get a feel about it, we will check what are the differences between this Google Chrome and Traditional browsers.
1. One Process Per Tab - Traditional web browsers like Firefox, IE etc were run as a single process with separate threads for each tabs under the same process. But Google Chrome is a bunch of co-operating processes.
When you open so many tabs in the traditional browser and keep this browser running for long hours, it will lead to memory leak in the process causing the browser to take up most of your system resources. This is a known issue in Mozilla Firefox. But Chrome will avoid this issue as each tab is a process, and the Operating System will release all the resources used by a 'tab process' when that tab is closed.
2. Tab is the KING - Have you ever got a situation where when you open a new tab in a traditional browser and suddenly something is running for ever in the new tab keeping your browser 'stuck' for a few minutes. This has occurred a lot of times to me and it is a very frustrating thing, especially when you are in a hurry. It will get even worse when the browser crashes, leaving your unsaved work lost in the dark. This will not occur in Google Chrome, because if a tab gets stuck, only that tab will not be accessible. All other tabs will be accessible as Normal.
Although there are some advantages for this new generation of browsers, only time will tell whether it will be a hit. Hopefully Google will keep its track-record and we can have another wonderful tool from Google.
